Lionel Messi and his father were sentenced Wednesday to 21 months in prison and fines of EUR 3.7 million in total for tax evasion, announced the Court of Barcelona.
The argentine star, convicted of defrauding on revenues from its rights to the image between 2007 and 2009, should, however, escape from incarceration. In Spain, sentences of less than two years are generally not executed. According to Spanish law, less than two years imprisonment may be served on parole.
