Turkey: Parliament will decide on the death penalty, said Erdogan

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that it was parliamentarians to decide whether recovery or not of the death penalty and that it would ratify their decision, whatever it is, reported CNN International TV channel.

The Turkey has abolished the death penalty in 2004 negotiations on its bid for the European Union, but calls for its restoration have proliferated these days after the attempt of coup d'etat of Friday night, which killed more than 200 people.

"It take a parliamentary decision to make a decision," said Erdogan in an interview to CNN, according to the translation broadcast by the channel. "As president, I approve any decision that will be taken by Parliament."
